Richard Mokwunye from Nigeria is the newest addition to our sock-knitting team! With a degree and extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering, Richard brings a wealth of technical expertise and a passion for problem-solving that aligns perfectly with Kingly’s innovative approach. He’s already embraced the family-like atmosphere at Kingly, and we’re excited to see the positive impact he will make with his energy and skills.
Richard is an avid learner, keeping his mind sharp with audiobooks and inspirational stories. In his free time, you’ll often find him out for a walk, swimming, or enjoying a game of tennis. We’re delighted to have Richard on board and can’t wait to see how he helps us grow!
Richard, how did you learn about Kingly and decide to join the company?
I met Rob, the CEO, by chance. We had a small interaction, and from there, we began communicating regularly. Rob was surprised to learn that I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. One day, he called me about a job opening. He asked for my CV and invited me to the factory. “Let’s see if you’ll be interested in the knitting industry,” he said. When I came, everything was different, but with my engineering background, I adapted quickly. I saw the machines, and the people, and felt the warm, welcoming atmosphere—completely different from the rigid environment at my previous job. Ever since then, I’ve been truly happy working at Kingly.
Do you get the support and guidance you need from your colleagues?
Yes, I feel very confident now. The team is fantastic. Muhammad, the Head of the Busi Giovanni Sock Knitting Department, has been incredibly supportive. He knows I’m new to the industry, so he’s been patient, helping me understand the equipment. Farooq, Numan, and Luqman have also been amazing. It’s been a superb experience working with this team.
What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
The most challenging part is managing the machines, especially the software. I’m taking my time to learn because I want to get it right. I want to learn and do things quicker, but my colleagues remind me, “Richard, take it easy. Progress comes with time.” Distinguishing between GOTS Organic and Euro Eco Cotton can also be confusing, but I’m getting there.
And the most rewarding part?
Seeing the final product is the most rewarding. When you put in the effort and meet the deadline, it brings a sense of accomplishment. There’s nothing more satisfying than producing a high-quality product on time, with the support of a great team. Having a supportive team leader like Mohamed also makes a big difference—it motivates me to give my best every day.
How do you find the atmosphere at Kingly?
Kingly is like a family. People are open and friendly. If someone doesn’t feel like talking, that’s okay—I respect people’s space. But when we come together, especially for birthdays or celebrations, it feels like a family gathering. Rob fosters this sense of community; he treats everyone with respect and never pressures or yells. It’s refreshing compared to other places, where work can feel depressing. Here, you leave work feeling happy.
Is there anything you’d like to improve or change?
I’d like to see better communication between the two knitting departments at the company. It would be great if the department heads had a short weekly meeting to discuss issues and find solutions together, ensuring the production process runs smoothly without needing to escalate every issue to management.
What are your superpowers, the qualities that can help Kingly grow?
Everyone has unique qualities. If I had a superpower, it would be to help Kingly grow and compete with global companies. There are many big sharks in the market, and I want to see Kingly swim among them.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I spend most of my free time listening to audiobooks and reading inspirational stories. They keep my mind sharp and motivate me to reach the next level. On weekends, I like to go for walks, swim, or play tennis—those are my favorite hobbies.
